| Description | WINS could not come up because the existing WINS database needs conversion to the Windows 2000 format. If this is the first invocation of WINS after an upgrade from NT3.51, first, you need to run the convert utility (upg351db.exe in the %%SystemRoot%%\\system32 directory) on the WINS database to convert it to the NT 4.0 database format. Then, you need to run the convert utility (edbutil.exe in the %%SystemRoot%%\\system32 directory) on the converted 4.0 WINS database to convert it to the Windows 2000 database format. Once you have done that, you should restart WINS. |
| Event Information | CAUSE: If this is the first invocation of WINS after an upgrade from Windows NT 3.51, two database conversions must be done to make the database Windows 2000 compatible. You will have to run the NT 3.51 conversion utility on the WINS database to convert it to the Windows NT 4.0 database format. When this conversion is finished, you need to run the Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 conversion. Once both conversions are done, you should restart WINS. RESOLUTION: The steps to upgrade to Windows 2000 compatibility are: 1. Run upg351db.exe from the winnt\system32 folder. 2. Run edbutil.exe from the winnt\system32 folder. 3. After the upgrade is complete, restart WINS. |
