CAUSE:

In some cases, this might be due to lack of permissions for NETWORK SERVICE.

RESOLUTION:
Check the file permissions on the root and the folder where update content is downloaded and make sure, NETWORK SERVICE has Read access to the root of the drive, and also Modify access to the \WsusContent directory.

Cause :
WSUS synchronization needs to download update content from the upstream server or Microsoft Update.
Resolution :
Content Synchronization Failed
Content download has failed. BITS service is not starting or is stopping during downloads.
a)Open a command window.
b)Type sc config bits start= auto
3.Type net stop bits && net start bits
4.Type net stop wsusservice && net start wsusservice
5.Start WSUS 3.0: Click Start, click Administrative Tools, then click Microsoft Windows Server Update Services v3.0.
6.Click Synchronization Results.
7.In the Action pane, click Synchronize Now.
Verify :
Look for the corresponding error event.
1. Open a command window.
2.Type cd \Tools
3. Type wsusutil checkhealth
4.Type eventvwr.
5.Review the Application log for the most recent events from source Windows Server Update Services and event id 10030.

The server does not support the necessary HTTP protocol. Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) requires that the server support the Range protocol header"" - This problem occurs if your proxy environment does not support HTTP 1.1 Protocol. You can manually work around this by configuring BITS. Download ?Microsoft Windows Server Update Services server diagnostic tool?, extract file and run following command from command prompt: WsusDebugTool.exe /Tool:SetForegroundDownload.
You may see the following on the WSUS admin home page:
One or more Update Service services could not be contacted. Check your server status and ensure that the Windows Server Update Service is running. Non-running services: SelfUpdate. This message can occur from one of two problems.
First, if you receive this message in the To Do List on the WSUS console home page, you might have an assigned IP address set to the default Web site on your WSUS server.To avoid this issue, do the following:
1. On the WSUS server, open IIS Manager. In the tree, expand Computername, expand Web Sites, right-click Default Web Site, and then click Properties.
2. On the Web Site tab, under Web Site Identification, enter (All Unassigned) in the IP address box, click OK, and then close IIS Manager.
3. Open Services (click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services). In the details pane, right-click Update Services, click Restart, and then close Services.
