DescriptionFailed to register with the APS . Please make sure the APS is up and running. Attempting an automatic retry..."
Event InformationSolution:
This scenario can be a bit tricky to troubleshoot. At first glance, it would appear that the APS couldn't connect to its database. However, a closer review of the application log reveals that it did make a successful connection with the database prior to shutting down. For example, the following message appears in the log:

"APS startup: reading info objects table from db... "

It is recommended that you log the APS using level 9 for this issue. Be certain to return the APS to its previous logging level after you have finished. Logging level 9 is a high user of system resources and should only used for short term testing.

In this case, the log generated by the APS contained an entry similar to the following:
"...The port number specified for the server is already in use..."
This indicates that the port used by the APS is not available. By default, the Crystal Enterprise (CE) server components require the following ports:
· Crystal APS = port 6400
· Crystal Web Component Server = port 6401
· Crystal Cache = port 6403
· Crystal Input File Repository Server = port 6404
· Crystal Output File Repository Server = port 6404
· Crystal Page Server = port 6405
· Crystal Report Job Server = port 6406

If you are not certain if the ports used in your CE environment have been altered, you can double-check them in the Crystal Configuration Manager. Right-click the service you wish to check, and then click 'Properties'. The 'Port Number' will be indicated on the 'Configuration'
