Event SourceBackup Exec
DescriptionUnable to attach to \\SERVERNAME\System?State.Access is denied. To Backup or Restore System State, Administrator privileges are required.
Event InformationThis information from some newsgroups may help you:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This issue may occur if the Backup Exec service account does not have administrator or domain administrator rights. Verify the rights and remove all other groups that belong to this account. Set domain admin as the primary account prior to removing the domain user rights. Additionally, this error could occur if the password database file, Bewinui.uni, contains incorrect authentication information. For more information, see Related Documents section at the end of the document. When the BEWINUI.UNI file is renamed and recreated any user name and password previously entered to attach to a remote machine has to entered again in Backup Exec for Windows NT.
The error message "access denied" or "access is denied" is returned when the account provided to attach to a resource does not have sufficient rights to back up the resource. Most "access denied" messages can be resolved by providing an alternate account with local administrative rights to the resource for the backup operation to connect with. This is most easily accomplished by using the "set default attach information" feature found on the dropdown menu from the Network menu.
Recommended accounts to use for different resources:
1. Microsoft SQL resources should be configured to use the System Administration (SA) or an equivalent account.
2. Microsoft Exchange resources should be configured to use the Exchange Administrator or Exchange Full Administrator account.
3. NAS device hosted resources should be configured to use the NAS device Administration account.
4. Novell NetWare 3.12 resources should be configured to use the Supervisor or an equivalent account.
5. Novell NetWare 5.x and 6.x resources should be configured to use the Administration account (fully distinguished account names should be provided if multiple bindery contexts exist).
