DescriptionIPBOOTP has discarded a packet received on the local interface with IP address: %1. The packet had a hop-count of: %2, which is greater than the maximum value allowed in packets received for this interface. The hop-count field in a DHCP REQUEST packet indicates how many times the packet has been forwarded from one relay-agent to another.
Event Information According to Microsoft :

Cause :

This event is logged when IPBOOT has discarded a packet received on the local interfaces.

Resolution :

Check memory status, reinstall DHCP Relay Agent, or configure DHCP Relay Agent hop count

Possible resolutions:
  • This computer might be low on memory. For more information, see the "Check memory usage on the server" section.
  • Remove and reinstall the DHCP Relay Agent. For more information, see the "Remove and reinstall the DHCP Relay Agent" section.
  • Check that the hop count field is correctly configured. For more information, see the "Configure DHCP Relay Agent hop count" section.
To perform these procedures, you must have membership in Administrators , or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

Check memory usage on the server

To check memory usage on the remote access server:
  1. On the remote access server, click Start , click Run , type taskmgr , and then click OK .
  2. In the Windows Task Manager dialog box, click the Performance tab.
  3. Under Physical Memory , check the remote access server's memory usage.
  4. If necessary, free up available memory by ending non-essential applications or processes.
Remove and reinstall DHCP Relay Agent

To remove and add the DHCP Relay Agent:
  1. Open Routing and Remote Access. Click Start , click Run , type rrasmgmt.msc , and then press ENTER.
  2. In the console tree, expand IPv4 , right-click DHCP Relay Agent , and then click Delete .
  3. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
  4. Under IPv4 , right-click General , and then click New Routing Protocol .
  5. Click DHCP Relay Agent , and then click OK.
Configure DHCP Relay Agent hop count

To configure DHCP Relay Agent hop count:
  1. Open Routing and Remote Access. Click Start , click Run , type rrasmgmt.msc , and then press ENTER.
  2. In the console tree, expand IPv4 , and then click DHCP Relay Agent .
  3. In the details pane, right-click the interface you want to configure, and then click Properties .
  4. Check the settings in the Hop-count threshold field.
Verify :

To verify that the DHCP Relay Agent is working:
From the router with the DHCP Relay Agent enabled, use the ping command to ping each of the DHCP servers that are configured in the DHCP Relay Agent dialog box on the remote access server
