| Event Information | Explanation : The W32time 28 event usually appears when Windows Time Service cannot contact its time source over an extended period of time. This is a critical message because Windows Time Service can no longer synchronize the time and requires user intervention to resume. In some cases, the source computer is unavailable; it might be shut down, disconnected from the network, or unreachable because of firewall, router, or network configurations. The W32time 29 message appears in Event Viewer several times before the W32time 28 message appears. User Action : Do one or more of the following: Confirm that the local computer is capable of contacting the time source. In most cases, a simple connectivity test such as ping is adequate. If Windows Time Service (or other NTP Time Service) is running on a Windows NT 4.0 domain, use a manually configured peer for time synchronization. If you are using a manually configured peer, such as time.windows.com, confirm that the name is typed correctly and that the system is available. Confirm that there are no network devices that block traffic on port 123 between the local computer and the time source. Either restart the time service or, at the command prompt, run w32tm\config\update. Always monitor the system after correcting the situation to ensure that synchronization continues successfully. |
