CAUSE

The servers configuration parameter “irpstacksize” is too small for the server to use a local device. Please increase the value of this parameter.

When installing Storage Replicator, the Setup program checks whether the IRP stack size parametervalue is 5 or below. If the IRPstackSize Registry value is not present in the NT Registry, the Storage Replicator Setup assumes the default value is 5, adds the registry value and sets it to 7. However, after installing Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4, the new default IRP stack size parameter value is set to 11.

Also, the IRPstackSize registry value may not be present in the NT Registry. If Storage Replicator is installed after installing Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 and if the IRPstackSize registry value is not explicitly present in the NT Registry, then the Setup will add the value to the NT Registry and reset the value to 7. This causes the error messages that the IRP stack size is too small.

RESOLUTION

modify the Windows NT Registry by adding the Registry value (if it is not present), and setting the value to 11. The Registry value IRPstackSize, which may be listed at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters"
