Description | This H.323 compliant Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Voice over Frame Relay (VoFR) gateway provides a pathway for telephony voice traffic between packet-based networks and switched circuit telephone networks. This product, consisting of six independent code bases running concurrently on multiple processors, was developed by three software teams: a DSP group, a telephony signaling group and a core system group. After serving as an individual contributor in the system group for a year, I was made Director of that group, then eventually of all three groups. The challenge of coordinating multiple teams was made more difficult by conflicting priorities and schedules for other product lines, facility relocations for all three teams and the acquisition of the company. Despite these difficulties, I was able to lead the development effort towards successful deployment of three major software releases. During the course of development for this product, I became intimately familiar with many of the technical aspects of the product, including voice compression CODECs, telephony signaling (wink start, R2-MFC, ISDN PRI and others) and VoIP protocols (SIP, MGCP, H.323, RTP/RTCP, T.38). |
