To review the error code:
1.Click the Start button, Run, then typecmd to open a command prompt.
2.Typesc query service_name (where service_name is the name of the service) at the command prompt to display the Windows WIN32_EXIT_CODE error code text that the Service Control Manager encountered when trying to start the service.
Note: If the WIN32_EXIT_CODE is zero, then SCM did not attempt to start the service because the error was detected first.

Cause:
The Protected Storage service registry key is missing from the registry.
Before proceeding with the workaround, verify that the Protected Storage service registry key is missing. The ProtectedStorage service registry key is located at the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
Resolution:
To resolve this issue, register the Protected Storage service to the Windows NT Registry by performing the following steps:
1.Type the following command at a command prompt:
%SystemRoot%\System32\Pstores.exe -install
2. Close all programs and restart the computer.
This same command can be used to remove the Protected Storage keys. If you run this command and the registry key is there, it may remove it along with all of the other Protected Storage keys.
Cause2:
This behavior can occur because NetBIOS over Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is disabled.
Resolution :
To resolve this behavior, you must enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, by performing the following steps:

1) Open Device Manager.
2) On the View menu, click to select the Show hidden devices check box.
3) Double-click Non-Plug and Play Drivers.
4) Double-click NetBIOS over Tcpip.
5) In the Device usage box, click Use this device (enable).

When you restart the system, the server may take longer to restart. If this behavior occurs, go to the following registry key:

HKey_Local_Machine/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/Netlogon/DependOnService

Double-click DependOnService and in the multi-string editor add the following value (if it is not already present):
LanmanServer
