Always ensure that a current backup exists prior to defragmenting database files. 2. Take the domain controller offline, as follows: If you are logged on to the domain controller locally, restart the domain controller in Directory Services Restore Mode.If you are using Terminal Services for remote administration, you can remotely restart the domain controller in Directory Services Restore Mode after modifying the Boot.ini file on the remote server. 3. Compact the directory database file (offline defragmentation). As part of the offline defragmentation procedure, check directory database integrity. 4. If database integrity check fails, perform semantic database analysis with fixup. |
