| Event Information | According to Microsoft : Cause : This event is logged when Windows Media Center Extender cannot be uninstalled. Resolution : Media Center Extender Management To determine how to fix this error condition, examine the error code reported in the event log message. The error code is displayed in the decimal numbers. The event log message can report the following error codes: Error Code - 10 Error Code - 301 Error Code - 10 This error code indicates a permission error. The error code occurs if the User Account Control dialog box is dismissed or permission is not granted to start the Windows Media Center Extender Configuration during setup. You should restart the uninstall Extender task and grant permission. To grant permission: 1.Uninstall the Extender by launching Media Center on the PC and click Tasks, click Settings and then click Extender. 2.Click the Extender you would like to uninstall and then click Uninstall 3.Follow the on screen instructions. When the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is Media Center Extender Configuration, and then click Continue. Error Code - 301 This error code indicates that the Windows Media Center PC is unable to uninstall the Extender. You should restart the Windows Media Center PC and try to uninstall the Extender again. Verify : You can verify that the Windows Media Center Extender is uninstalled, disabled, or enabled successfully using the event log. If the uninstall is successful, Event ID 408 with the Mcx2Dvcs event source will be written to the event log. If the Extender is disabled, Event ID 407 with the Mcx3Dvcs event source will be written to the event log. If the Extender is enabled, Event ID 406 with the Mcx2Dvcs event source will be written to the event log. To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the local Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. To verify that Event ID 408 is being written to the event log: 1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2.Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer. 3.If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue. 4.Expand Application and Services Logs, and then click Media Center. 5.Look for an event with a Source named Mcx2Dvcs and an Event ID of 408. To verify that Event ID 407 is being written to the event log: 1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2.Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer. 3.If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue. 4.Expand Application and Services Logs, and then click Media Center. 5.Look for an event with a Source named Mcx2Dvcs and an Event ID of 407 ?To verify that Event ID 406 is being written to the event log: 1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2.Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer. 3.If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue. 4.Expand Application and Services Logs, and then click Media Center. 5.Look for an event with a Source named Mcx2Dvcs and an Event ID of 406 |
