Description | RPC Server start error! Return Code: 1740 |
Event Information | The SPNT Normal Server shows a STOP sign. Any attempt to restart the service fails. The Event Viewer System Logs show the following 2 events: 203 - RPC Server start error! Return Code: 1740 210 - ServiceProtect service could not be started! Return Code 1114 These errors occur in ServerProtect when the new start service is found to be a duplicate. Error 1740: The RPC endpoint is a duplicate. If there is an existing ServerProtect service in the system that has not been stopped or terminated, starting a new one means duplicating the service which causes the above errors. Solution: 1) Open the Task Manager. 2) Click the Process tab. Check if Spntsvc.exe is listed. This is the process to be terminated. Note: The Spntsvc.exe process cannot be killed from Task Manager. You will get an Access Denied message. This has to be done in MS-DOS prompt. 3) Write down the PID of the Spntsvc.exe process. 4) Open up a DOS prompt and change the command line to point to the ServerProtects home directory. 5) Perform the following command: spntsvc /x 12345 where 12345 is the PID of the Spntsvc.exe process. Restart the ServerProtect service. |
