Yes the problem was solved by a reinstall of Filemaker Server. In case anyone else has the same problem... The reason that I had not done that before was that when I tried to uninstall the current installation, I received an error (missing DLL). However after a bit of trawling on the web, found that this is a bug with the release I had of FM Server.
