Description | ISA Server disconnected the following client: IP address because its connection limit was exceeded. For more information about connection limits, see ISA Server Help. |
Event Information | According to Microsoft: CAUSE: This behavior may occur if the computer that the client program is running on has exceeded the number of concurrent connections that ISA Server 2004 allows. ISA Server 2004 implements a connection limit (also known as a quota) mechanism. By default, the number of concurrent connections is limited to 160 for each client computer. If a client computer reaches this connection limit, ISA Server 2004 implements one of the following connection limit mechanisms: • For User Datagram Protocol (UDP) connections, if a client program reaches this connection limit, any additional UDP connections cause a previous UDP connection to be dropped. • For Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connections, if a client program reaches this connection limit, no additional connections are permitted. This functionality is included in ISA Server 2004 to help prevent one particular computer from overloading the ISA Server computer with connections. RESOLUTION: To resolve this behavior, increase the number of connections that ISA Server allows. You can increase the number of permitted connections for all client computers, or you can create a custom connection limit that is based on a computers IP address. To increase the number of connections that ISA Server allows, follow these steps: 1. Start the ISA Server Management tool. 2. Expand computername, where computername is the name of your ISA Server computer. 3. Expand Configuration, and then click General. 4. Under Additional Security Policy, click Define Connection Limits. 5. Do one or both of the following: • To change the number of connections that all clients can make, type the number of client connections that you want to allow in the Limit the number of connections per client box. By default, ISA Server permits every client computer to make 160 connections. • To create a custom connection limit: a. Click Add, and then click New. b. In the Name box |
