DescriptionServer for NFS could not register with RPC Port Mapper. Server for NFS did not start. Network File System (NFS) clients discover NFS servers by querying the port mapper for a remote server (also known as Portmap and Rpcbind). NFS clients will not be able to discover and communicate with Server for NFS on this computer.

Cause :

This event is logged when Server for NFS could not register with RPC Port Mapper.

Resolution :

Free system resources and restart Portmap and Server for NFS

Windows may sometimes fail to load the Services for NFS driver if the computer is low on system resources.

To increase available system resources:
  1. Open an elevated Command Prompt window. Click Start , point to All Programs , click Accessories , right-click Command Prompt , and then click Run as administrator .
  2. Type net stop portmap to stop the Port Mapper service.
  3. Close all programs and stop unnecessary services.
  4. Type net start nfssvc to start Server for NFS and Portmap.
Note : Server for NFS and the Server for NFS driver are dependent on the Windows RPC Port Mapper service. Stopping the Windows RPC Port Mapper service will also stop Server for NFS and its driver. Verify :

To verify Server for NFS startup status:
  1. Open an elevated Command Prompt window. Click Start , point to All Programs , click Accessories , right-click Command Prompt , and then click Run as administrator .
  2. Type net start .
  3. Verify that Server for NFS appears in the list of results.
