Event ID | 6 |
Source | Norton AntiVirus |
Description | 1. Scan could not open file C:\WINNT\system32\wins\winstmp.mdb [00000003]. 2. Could not scan <number> files inside <path to file> due to extraction errors encountered by the Decomposer Engines. |
Event Information | CAUSE: When Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition (NAVCE) 7 performs a manual or scheduled scan of users folders, an error displays: "Scan Could Not Access <Path>." You are only allowed to scan your personal user folder. When Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.x performs a manual or scheduled scan, the error: "Scan Could Not Access <Path>" appears. You may only be allowed to scan your personal user folder or folders, or external media. (For example, CD-ROM or Floppy Drive.) RESOLUTION: This problem can occur when scanning a FAT32 formatted hard drive on a Windows NT/2000/XP computer. This was resolved with Symantec AntiVirus 8.01, build 446. You may also experience this problem if there are insufficient permissions associated with a file system object. In this case, checking and appropriately modifying permissions resolves the problem. NAVCE 7 uses the System account to authenticate folders and files for scanning. You will need to troubleshoot the System account and determine why there are restrictions on folders or files which cause the above error to display. Symantec does not recommend changing the account used by the Norton AntiVirus service to an alternate account. An exception is when Symantec Technical Support directs you to change the account for troubleshooting purposes. The account should be changed back to use the System account when the troubleshooting session is ended. Symantec Technical Support recommends you give System account permissions to the folders when this error is displayed. For the first description: Cause: "winstmp.mdb" is a WINS temporary database and open files cannot be scanned. For the second description: Cause: If the antivirus encounters a password protected archive, this message is logged. Refer following articles for more information about this event. |
