Event InformationWhen you try to send an e-mail message to a local mailbox, and the message cannot be delivered, the message stays in the local delivery queue of the mailbox store for two days before your Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server returns a non-delivery report (NDR). During the two days that the message stays in the local delivery queue, the Exchange 2000 mailbox store tries to deliver the message. Events that are similar to this may be logged in the application log along with event id 12002
CAUSE 1: This problem occurs because messages that cause the JET_errRecordTooBig error to occur are kept in the local delivery queue. The mailbox store tries to deliver the message for two days. If the message cannot be delivered after two days, an NDR is sent to the sender of the message, and the mailbox store stops trying to deliver the message.
RESOLUTION: A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft ."
CAUSE 2:
This problem may occur if MSExchangeTransport does not update a message ID counter during internal processing. This behavior can cause a duplicate message ID to be generated for all subsequent messages until the original copy of the message is removed. The message that is affected typically appears as a replication message. Public folder replication may stop working after this problem occurs, because messages cannot be sent from the public information store.
RESOLUTION:
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.
