Cause :

This event is logged when BITS has encountered an error communicating with an Internet Gateway Device.

Resolution :

Check the Internet gateway device configuration

To resolve this issue, do the following:

To perform these procedures, you must have membership in the local Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
  1. Ensure that the Internet gateway device (IGD) supports Universal Plug and Play (UPnP).
  2. If the IGD supports UPnP, verify that the IGD is turned on.
  3. Confirm that a firewall is not blocking UPnP traffic (TCP 2869 and UDP 1900).
  4. Restart the IGD.
  5. Restart the BITS Service. To restart the BITS Service, do the following:
  • Open an elevated command prompt. To open an elevated command prompted, type Start , right-click Command Prompt , and then click Run as Administrator .
  • Type sc stop bits and then press ENTER.
  • Type sc start bits and then press ENTER.
If the problem persists, check for updates for the IGD from the manufacturer.

Verify :

Confirm with your Internet Gateway Device (IGD) vendor that the device supports Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) counters. If the device supports UPnP counters, BITS will automatically retry using the IGD to determine bandwidth.
