SourceIMAP4SVC
DescriptionMessage <message id> from <host name> exceeded the maximum hop count(<value>). The archive filename is <file name>.
Event InformationAccording to Microsoft:
EXPLANATION:
This event indicates that the maximum number of hops permitted has been reached. This limit is set at the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) Virtual Server level in Exchange Server. Messages can travel through several SMTP servers before reaching the virtual server. Each time this occurs, the intermediary SMTP server adds a line of text, that references the hop, to the messages header. The default maximum number of hops is 15, although the optimal number may vary depending on the topology of your network. When a message reaches the SMTP component of an Exchange server, the hop count on the message is compared with the MAXIMUM HOP COUNT set on the SMTP Virtual Server Properties of that Exchange server. If the hop count on the message exceeds the MAXIMUM HOP COUNT set for the particular SMTP Virtual Server, the message is rejected.
USER ACTION:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
2. If administrative groups are enabled, expand the administrative group in which the server that you want to use is located.
3. In the console tree, click Server, expand your server, and double-click Protocols.
4. Double-click SMTP, right-click the SMTP Virtual Server that you want to work with, and then click Properties.
5. On the Delivery tab, click Advanced.
6. In the Advanced Delivery dialog box, type a new value in the Maximum hop count box. Valid values are between 10 and 256.
7. Click OK, and then click OK again.
